" Dear Amitabh,
You made it happen! We are thrilled to tell you that Kalpana arrived by ambulance to the Elephant Hospital just a few hours ago, leaving her old life far behind.
What we know so far from our veterinary team is that Kalpana is severely underweight, completely blind in her left eye, and partially blind in her right. We will learn more in the next few days, as tests are completed.
In the meantime, Kalpana’s already enthusiastically settling in to her new life of freedom. It warms our heart to see her munching on fresh green fodder, without a care in the world.
She even enjoyed her first refreshing shower, one of the basic joys in life that she has likely never before experienced.

Honestly, we can’t recall a day where our team has faced such extremes, emotionally. We had the devastation of losing Luna far too soon, and the joy of bringing Kalpana to freedom. Ultimately, the arrival of Kalpana - another begging elephant - is the perfect tribute to Luna and her legacy.
We are SO very grateful to you for helping us bring her to safety.
Stay tuned, and check out our Facebook page, too — we'll be posting a lot more about Kalpana, including photos and videos!
Thank you again,
The Wildlife SOS Team"
